Who Was Henrietta Lacks?

Face of Henrietta Lacks

When Henrietta Lacks entered Baltimore's Johns Hopkins hospital with a pain in her womb in January of 1951, she could not have imagined that cells routinely sampled during her treatment would become the source of countless medical marvels.  For Henrietta, she had a virulent and painful form of cancer, which ultimately took her life, aged just 31.  Her unique and controversial legacy, however, had only begun.
