One Book One Campus Launch Party

Last Lecture BookJoin Student Life and the Allegheny Campus Community as we kickoff the fall semester and the launch of the campus-wide book read of The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. The Campus Resource Fair at 11:00 AM will feature campus resources, book giveaways of The Last Lecture, and appetizers. Pausch believed that when people are connected to community they become better people. Stop by and GET CONNECTED to your campus community!

Performing and visual artist Vanessa German from Homewood will perform from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM. Ms. German’s front porch studio accidentally became an artistic outlet for the neighborhood children. Her performance will exemplify Pausch’s childhood urge to creatively express the thoughts swirling in his head.


Allowing Children to Dream: Lunch & Learn with Professor Stephanie Goloway

September 14 - Milton Hall Ampitheater - 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Boxed lunch will be provided! Pausch credits his successful career to his “winning the parent lottery” because they allowed him to dream and enabled the dreams of others. Professor Goloway will explore this theme found in The Last Lecture. Rain location in the SSC Building Auditorium Lobby.

Free Coffee and Snacks! CCAC administrator Jessica Rahim will facilitate a forum where readers can come together and discover the themes presented by Pausch.


The Barriers Between You & Your Dreams: Spoken Word & Art Exercise with Student Life

October 17 - Milton Hall Ampitheater - 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Pausch found many brick walls standing between him and his dreams. He believed that brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Spoken word performer Chauncey Alexander will highlight this theme with poetry and an interactive art exercise. Rain location in the SSC Building Auditorium Lobby.


Celebration of Dreams

November 9 - SSC Auditorium & Lobby - 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Join Student Life and the Allegheny Campus community as we celebrate dreams and conclude the semester long book read! Music, food, giveaways and more. Student drawing winners will be selected and the essay contest winners will perform. Essay winners will earn a $200, $100, or $50 VISA gift card.

 

Celebration of Dreams Essay Contest

Essay winners will earn a $200, $100, or $50 VISA gift card!

Students are invited to write an essay using one of the following prompts:

1. Describe a childhood dream you have achieved, and how you were able to accomplish it; or describe a dream you are in the process of achieving, as well as the steps you are taking to accomplish it.

2. What is the best advice you have ever received that has helped you, or continues to help you chase your dream?

3. Imagine you are giving your last lecture. What life lessons have you learned that would help others achieve their dreams?

Essay Contest Requirements:
Essay should be typed and can be no longer than 1,000 words.
Essay must be the original work of the student.
Contest deadline is October 22, 2016.
Students have the option of submitting their essay via email, or by dropping it off to a learning facilitator at their campus Learning Commons. Emails should include the essay as an attached document, and be sent to the Learning Commons Coordinator, Ria Buford, at rbuford@ccac.edu
